175th Anniversary of Coed Medical Education

This year marks the 175 anniversary of the Dr Elizabeth Blackwell’s graduation from medical school, which today is SUNY Upstate Medical University. With her graduation, Blackwell became the first woman in America to earn a medical degree, and thus ushered in coed medical education.

This website is dedicated to sharing resources and news about Blackwell and other pioneering women physicians associated with Upstate who have changed the profession in many ways.
